The Typography Educators Forum was organized by Akuru Collective in hopes of facilitating and inspiring the development of techniques and exercises for teaching typography and typographic subjects within the context of execution and crafting in the undergraduate level (graphic and visual communication) design courses. Participants were encouraged to actively engage with other graphic design educators through a series of seminars and workshops, with the intention of developing or improving on fundamental tools to help students practice better typographic execution and crafting.

Undergraduate-level design courses are usually focused on exposing students to a range of disciplines in graphics and communication and facilitating them to explore the possibilities of idea generation and execution. Typography can be an effective tool for understanding cultural contexts and one of the key tools in developing effective visual communications. An effective integration of typography education in undergraduate design programs could improve the quality of execution.

The forum was led by Gerry Leonidas, Professor of Typography. Past President of ATypI.
