After a long break, Colombo Type was back with its fifth edition on 10th February 2019 at 2.00 pm at the Royal College Union, Colombo 07. This time the presentations were focused on showcasing academic research and projects relating to Typography.
Memorizing Sinhala Letters by Rashandi Vishara Porambage was a presentation on a set of supportive tools for early learners. It was a result of her final year research and Comprehensive Design Project. During her presentation, she discussed the process she went through in typographic research which was very inspiring for the young audience.
Uthpala Deepthi & Thimith Rodrigo, 3rd-year students from The Department of Integrated Design, University of Moratuwa represented their batch in presenting “Dance of Typography”, a showcase of their amazing visual executions of type design that were the results of an academic module of Poster Designing. The presentation included a few of the winning poster designs of the Typoday 2019 Poster Design Competition.
Away from the research and academic point of view, Sasheen Attanayake, a final year undergraduate, spoke at the event on how he found joy in lettering in his free time at the university which later became all about logotype design. He had named his presentation “Idle Hours; A journey through the letters” which was indeed a fitting name for his logotype design portfolio.
