How did we design, manipulate, and work with type before the desktop computer revolutionized the way we produce, use and read printed letters?
At our very first Akuru Movie Night, we mused over the “old school” type setting techniques and watched the graphic design production process evolve out of the 1950s through the 1990s—from linecasters to photocomps, and from past-ups to PDFs.
The movie demonstrated the impact of technology on the production process, specifically the cost and time it took to see a final design, the jobs it made obsolete, the opportunities it created, and the social impact it had on our society—particularly in terms of democratizing typography and publishing.
It was delicious, just as much as the wade that were there in plenty as our movie snack.
